Kuwait - Second Set

Some shots from my trip to Doha Village

I took a trip to a place called Doha Village which is on the north side of the bay of Kuwait. This is a port/fishing town where they used to make the traditional middle east style fishing boat. I guess this is where they end up when they are no longer seaworthy. I saw about 50 or so of these boats abandonded on the shore.

  • They usually seem to have the white bow that looks like of like a seagull head.

  • As you can tell from this shot and many others, the shore of the gulf tends to be a mess - totally covered in trash.
  • I don't know the story on this but it looks cool. A lot of these boats have this decorated mast sticking up in the front.
  • More dead boats and trash.
  • I like the color of this one.
  • Not sure why I took this one, but it looks cool.
  • A lot of the boats have this cresent moon on the bow - see previous picture too.

  • This is the side of one of the boats. I like the colors.
  • Not sure why anyone would take a picture of dead fish and coke bottle on the beach. I guess it kind of demonstrates what the "beaches" commonly look like.
  • This is the mudflats in the bay of Kuwait. Across the way is "Entertainment City". Some kind of amusement park that was badly damaged during the Iraq invasion but is back in business.
  • This is the mudflats again but the other direction, back toward Kuwait City. The tallest point you can see in the skyline is the Liberation Tower.
  • Here is Muddy da Mudskipper (wasn't he a Ren&Simpy character?). Never seen one of these guys before so I took a few shots. To see one of them is to see Darwin's theory in action. These are fish that can breath and walk out of water.
  • You can see his arm/fins in this one.

  • Ok enough, they aren't that interesting...
  • Another thing to find on the "beaches" of Kuwait - skeletons. I think this one is a dog.
  • So I took a lot of pictures of the desert north of Kuwait City and they all came out looking exactly like this shot.
